The RDS5 Swing Gate Valve can be used in applications where the air intake line is 3to 4½ inches (76 - 114 mm) in diameter. It can be mounted in vertical or horizontal orientations and airflow through the valve can be in either direction.
To accommodate the installation requirements for the wide variety diesel engine applications, valve attachments are available in several styles including: hose, O-ring, flange, and engine specific attachment.
Pneumatic Actuation
The pneumatically actuated RDS5 is designed for mechanical latching in the open position (engine run) and air pressure actuated closure. The pneumatically actuated RDS5 is reset manually. The pneumatically actuated RDS5 valve is designed for use in the systems indicated below:
- Automatic Electric Overspeed RPM Detection with Pneumatic Actuation
- Manual Electric/Pneumatic System
- Manual Pneumatic System
Mechanical Actuation
The mechanically actuated RDS1 can be operated by using either a remote cable pull system or direct operator action on the valve. The mechanically actuated RDS1 is reset manually. The mechanically actuated RDS1 valve is designed for use in the systems below:
- Remote Cable Pull Actuated System
- Direct Actuated Valve

Installation Kits
Installation kits are available for all valves sold and contain the hardware required to ease the installation of the Air Intake Shutoff Valve into a diesel engine air intake line. Roda Deaco has hundreds of different kits available to ease the installation process. The installation kits are designed to meet specific engine model and application requirements. The kits can range from hose with clamps to custom intake pipes, elbow, flanges, brackets, etc.
Overspeed Sensors and Switches
For automatic systems, engine overspeed sensors and switches are available to monitor and trigger the shutdown of the diesel in the event of an engine runaway condition.
